Malaysia to be manufacturing hub for Ericsson's 5G equipment in APAC

Malaysia has been selected as a manufacturing hub for 5G telecom equipment in the Asia Pacific (APAC) region, producing Ericsson's latest and most advanced 5G radios beginning from the third quarter of this year.

Its president and chief executive officer (CEO) for Malaysia, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh David Hägerbro said Malaysia will be the first in Southeast Asia to manufacture Ericsson's 5G equipment for domestic and regional markets.

"Supporting the decision to make Malaysia a regional manufacturing hub are the availability of a skilled workforce and the strong infrastructure that Malaysia offers.

"It is also an expression of Ericsson’s long-term commitment to the country, including the 5G network that we are rolling out," he said in a statement on Saturday (July 23).

Eurocham: Maintaining foreign workers enable swifter recovery for businesses in Malaysia

Maintaining the availability of foreign workers in the current economic environment is crucial to enable a swifter recovery for all businesses in the endemic phase, said the European Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Eurocham) Malaysia.

In a statement today, Eurocham Malaysia said the chamber is glad to relate that European companies are continuously transferring the latest automation technology from Europe to Malaysia to maximise productivity.

“The recent transition from Covid-19 pandemic to endemic phase, as well as the reopening of international borders, allow businesses to expand operations, for which a conducive business ecosystem is critical, to ensure the sustainability of the recovery and overall economic growth,” it said.

[CIRCULATION LETTER] MITI - DEFERMENT OF COMPLIANCE WITH 80:20 EMPLOYMENT CONDITION IN MANUFACTURING LICENSE

The Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITl) has issued a circulation letter regarding Deferment of Compliance with 80:20 Employment Condition in Manufacturing License – circulation letter as follows:

The Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITl) has recognized the crucial need for the manufacturing industry to follow up on the moratorium of foreign workers employment for two (2) years due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the issue of labor shortage raised by the industry.

As previously informed, one of the conditions stipulated in the Manufacturing License issued by MITI since 2016 is the condition of full-time employment of at least 80% Malaysians (80:20) which must be complied with no later than 31 December 2022. Meanwhile, the employment of foreigners including workers obtained through outsourcing is subject to current policies.
