The webinar was regarding data sovereignty which is the idea that data are subject to the laws and governance structures within the nation it is collected. Here are some key takeaways from the Advocacy Talks webinar:

- The discussion on data sovereignty with regards to both collection and processing, as well as taking into account local laws and governance framework within the country;

- Within the 7 principles of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), sensitive personal data includes medical records and information on public authorities as well as companies; and

- With cloud computing services and technology, it would be vital for countries to consider the extensive implications, if and where there is a lack of control, especially in terms of safety.

During the meeting, we gained a higher understanding of the operations and role of CMA CGM as a world-renowned shipping agent, as well as their focus on logistics.

EUROCHAM looks forward to more collaborative efforts, exploring opportunities as well as developing strategic plans and future engagement with CMA CGM by creating awareness of their commitment to providing end-to-end e-Commerce services through an array of promotions, advocacy programmes, and campaigns.

EUROCHAM Malaysia will be collaborating with our corporate partner Futurise on the upcoming RegTalk on Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR): The Foundation of a Circular Economy.

As nations become wealthier, they tend to consume increasing amounts of materials. In the absence of any further policy interventions, projections by the OECD suggest that global materials use could almost double by 2060, thereby also generating increasing amounts of waste, which need to be disposed of responsibly (OECD 2018).

The EU has undergone significant institutional and legislative changes but EPR has remained at the center of its waste management policies. European countries have achieved tremendous success from the EPR scheme over the years and its positive impact on the environmental front has trickled unto Asian countries to pursue this similar policy. Malaysia has recognised the need to create an EPR scheme to demand greater responsibility from producers to improve packaging designs with less material and higher recyclability and to support waste collection and separation.

World Youth Skills Day provides the youth an opportunity to shine their skills by taking part in skill development programs organised by various training institutions. It also provides a pathway between the youths and technical and vocational education and training (TVET) institutions, employers’ and workers’ organisations, firms, development partners, and policymakers.

The day also highlights the strategic importance of equipping young people with skills for employment, decent work, and entrepreneurship.

On behalf of our fellow member KSK Land, we would like to share another milestone that has been reached for 8 Conlay! KSK Land announces the structural completion of its second residential tower, Tower B of the twin branded residence YOO8 serviced by Kempinski (YOO8).

To commemorate the topping out of YOO8’s Tower B, a unique photo series was undertaken, featuring a panoramic view of Kuala Lumpur City Centre’s iconic landmarks captured from two actual units on one of the top floors of the tower.

Titled Height of Anticipation, the photos celebrate the present moment, both the steady progress of 8 Conlay as well as more symbolically, the city of Kuala Lumpur – a city in a constant state of flux, as any emerging metropolis would be.
