Supporting Partner: Legislating Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) in ASEAN: A Need?

On behalf of the EU-ASEAN Business Council, EUROCHAM Malaysia as a supporting partner would like to invite our members to participate in the upcoming webinar regarding Legislating Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) in ASEAN: A Need? happening on Tuesday, 1 March 2022 at 4 PM (SGT).

It is not a surprise that plastic pollution is a major problem in Southeast Asia – in 2021, more than 30 million tonnes of plastic waste was generated in just six ASEAN countries, packing landfills and choking water bodies that surround and meander through the region. The threats to human life and nature have been made clear, and with ASEAN’s population and economies booming, it is now more urgent than ever to tackle the issue. One clear way is through moves on Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR).

This webinar will discuss how stakeholders in both the public and private sectors can encourage and accelerate the adoption of EPR legislation in ASEAN countries, the challenges in doing so, particularly for MSMEs and private sector players, and how we can get the buy-in of all stakeholders along the chain, from manufacturers, to waste facilities, and consumers.

Advocacy Talks: Briefing on Penang Strategic Plan (Penang2030)

Join us on Thursday, 3 March 2022, at 10:30 AM (+8 GMT) for an exclusive briefing on Penang Strategic Plan (Penang2030). This briefing will be conducted by the Chief Minister of Penang, YAB Chow Kon Yeow.

The Penang Government recently presented the Penang Strategic State Development Plan (Penang2030). Penang is now gearing up for the state development vision of Penang2030 as a family-focused green and smart state to inspire the nation. In this vision, there are four (4) main themes, with the fourth theme of investing in a public infrastructure environment vital in the development of a holistic transport network.

The challenges Covid-19 poses have provided further motivation for Penang as a whole to realise the objectives of Penang2030. The Penang state government established Digital Penang amid the pandemic to align diverse digitalisation efforts within the state apparatus and initiated certain institutional reforms to improve policy-making processes and proper monitoring of project implementation.
