Sector Committee Meeting – Green Building

EUROCHAM Malaysia conducted a very insightful committee meeting with the Green Building sector committee. Among the members present were, Mr Gregers Reimann, Head and Deputy Head of the Green Building sector committee, Mr Allan Jensen together with EUROCHAM Malaysia Chief Executive Officer, Mr Sven Schneider, alongside other committee members.

During our committee meeting, we shared and discussed the CAN-CGM Policy Paper, which is the result of a series of private sectors roundtable discussions for Policy Recommendation for Energy Efficiency and Decarbonisation in the Malaysian Construction Sector, and also other recommendations to reducing emissions and thereby achieve a carbon-neutral Malaysia by latest 2050.

Sector Committee Meeting – Education

We had a crucial and technical meeting with the EUROCHAM Malaysia Education committee today, which was represented by University Malaya, The Alice Smith School, Asia School of Business, Hansel Gretel Child Development, The International School of Kuala Lumpur, and International French School of Kuala Lumpur.

The most pressing topic discussed was an appeal to the Ministry regarding the School Reopening and other challenges faced by the education sector during the pandemic. In addition, initiatives and programmes regarding remote learning and the future of education in a post-pandemic world were addressed.

ASEAN-BAC Malaysia Consultation Meeting

EUROCHAM Malaysia CEO Sven Schneider was invited to speak at the ASEAN Business Advisory Council Malaysia (ASEAN-BAC) Consultation Meeting. Also present at the meeting were Tan Sri Dato 'Dr Mohd Munir Bin Abdul Majid, Chairman, ASEAN-BAC Malaysia, Tan Sri Yong Poh Kon, Council Member, ASEAN-BAC Malaysia, Mr Raja Singham, Council Member, ASEAN-BAC Malaysia, Mr Faizal Bin Jalaludin Director (Foreign Investment Promotion), Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA), Mr Aidil Azman Senior Manager, Investor Relations - Europe, InvestKL, His Excellency Michalis Rokas, Ambassador of the European Union to Malaysia, Mr Chris Humphrey Executive Director, EU-ASEAN Business Council (EU-ABC). 

Among the issues discussed were the post-COVID-19 economy and how Malaysia would be able to attract foreign direct investments from Europe. The participants had a vibrant exchange on how to improve the eco-system, optimise policies as well as approach European investors. One of the key issues highlighted was the urgent need to restart the EU-Malaysia Free Trade Agreement negotiations, which have been stalled since 2012.
