Selangor Launches Supplementary Covid-19 Vaccine Scheme, Eyes 165,000 Shots Daily by August

The implementation of the Selangor Vaccination Programme (Selvax) by the state government along with additional doses provided by the Special Committee on Covid-19 Vaccine Supply will lead to a projected vaccination rate of 165,000 by August, said Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari.

He said once the programme begins, Selangor is expected to see 135,000 doses administered by the end of July.

“With the Selvax programme, we target an addition to the vaccination capacity reaching 43,500 doses a day,” Amirudin said during a special live-stream presentation.

This will be accomplished through 26 locations which include vaccination centres (PPV) community halls, mobile PPVs, health clinics, and private hospitals around Klang Valley.

“This will also significantly reduce the time needed by 100 days earlier, with a vax target of 80 per cent of Selangor's adult population by this October.

“Based on the available rates, the vaccination process in Selangor is expected to end as early as this December, with a portion of the rakyat in the state to complete their second vaccination dose by February 8 next year,” he said.

Selvax is divided into the community and industrial segments, with the community segment expected to benefit some 250,000 unvaccinated folks in the state at 500,000 doses, while the industrial segment will benefit one million workers at two million doses.

“The main targets of the Selvax community will be the elderly, those in the B40 category, as well as recipients of the Peduli Rakyat, Mesra Usia Emas, Kasih Ibu Smart Sgor, and Peduli Sihat schemes. Other categories to be added will be decided on based on need.

“The Selvax industry is particularly important as 91 per cent of Covid-19 cases in the state are from work-related clusters. Of this percentage, 80 per cent are factory clusters while 11 per cent are from construction site clusters,” Amirudin said.

As of today, 125 active clusters in Selangor are related to factories and construction sites. The mentri besar added that the one million workers to benefit from Selvax industrial will also include foreign workers.

“The Selvax industry is only open to companies and will not be sold to individuals. I emphasise that participating companies will not be allowed to charge their workers for the vaccination, and those who do so will face legal action per the consent form they signed.

“In total approximately five mega PPVs, six community hall PPVs, 15 SelfCare clinics will be mobilised to complete immunisation in Selangor, involving 5,000 medical and non-medical personnel and 1,228 panel clinics,” he said.

The mega PPVs include Tropicana Garden Mall in Petaling Jaya which can accomodate a daily capacity of 16,000, EVO Mall in Bangi, Kompleks PKNS in Kelana Jaya, De Palma Hotel in Shah Alam, and Aurora Mall in Bukit Jalil.

Amirudin concluded by reminding the audience not to be complacent, since vaccinations are only part of the efforts to curb Covid-19 and other steps including physical distancing and wearing face masks are equally important.

“We should bear in mind what happened to other countries which achieved a certain level of vaccination. They became complacent and cases resurged, which forced them to restrict movement again and go back into lockdown.

“We are in a similar situation, and now in the 468th day since the lockdown first began in Malaysia. We must all do our part to ensure the country recovers as swiftly and safely as possible,” he said.
