It is informed that HRH Seri Paduka Baginda Yang Di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah Ibni Almarhum Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Al-Musta'in Billah agreed to meet The Honorable Prime Minister Tan Sri Mahiaddin bin Md. Yassin at the National Palace, today.
His Majesty also agreed to meet the Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Mohd Zuki bin Ali, Attorney-General Tan Sri Idrus Harun, and Chairman of the Election Commission Datuk Haji Abdul Ghani bin Salleh at 11.00 am at Istana Negara.
At the session with The Honorable Prime Minister, which lasted for 30 minutes starting from 12.30 pm, His Majesty accepted the letter of resignation of The Honorable Tan Sri Mahiaddin bin Md. Yassin as Prime Minister and the post of the entire cabinet immediately with effect today.
Following this resignation, His Majesty has agreed that Tan Sri Mahiaddin bin Md. Yassin serves as the Prime Minister's caretaker until the new Prime Minister is appointed.
This is in line with Article 40 (2) (a) and 43 (2) (a) of the Federal Constitution which states that His Majesty shall appoint a Member of the House of Representatives who in his opinion may gain the confidence of the majority of Members of the House as the new Prime Minister to chairing the Cabinet.
