2 pct left to be vaccinated before state, international borders are reopened

Only two per cent of the adult population remains to be vaccinated for Malaysian state and international borders to be reopened safely.

Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin said this based on data from the Covid-19 Vaccine Supply Access Guarantee Special Committee (JKJAV).

He tweeted: "88 per cent of our adult population has been fully vaccinated. That's another 2 per cent until state borders are open & Malaysians will no longer need to apply for MTP (My Travel Pass) to travel abroad."

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob had said state borders would reopen once 90 per cent of the adult population is vaccinated.

Ismail Sabri had earlier said Malaysians could also travel abroad by December or sooner depending on the country's vaccination rate.

The committee also reported that 94.4 per cent of the adult population had at least been partially vaccinated.

Vaccination rates for Sabah remained the lowest at 62 per cent of the adult population fully covered followed by Kelantan (72 per cent), Perak (75.6 per cent), Kedah (76.9 per cent) and Pahang (77.8 per cent).

Mid-tier and climbing inoculation rates include Johor with 83.9 per cent of its adult population fully vaccinated, followed by Terengganu (85.7 per cent), Penang (86.0 per cent) , Melaka (88.2 per cent)and Sarawak (89.6 per cent).

Klang Valley continues to record the highest vaccination rates with 111.7 per cent of its adult population inoculated (the over 100 per cent rates are due to increase of its population outside the census count) while Labuan and Negri Sembilan notched a rate of 98.8 and 98.1 per cent respectively.

Perlis recorded a vaccination rate of 92.4 per cent.
