A media statement has been issued by the Ministry of Health Malaysia regarding Booster Dose, Latest Recommendations from The Technical Working Committee (TWG) – media statement as follows:
The Drug Control Authority (DCA) has approved the Comirnaty vaccine, product of Pfizer-BioNTech, CoronaVac vaccine, product of Sinovac/Pharmaniaga Lifescience and AstraZeneca vaccine for use as a booster dose.
Further to that, the Technical Working Committee (TWG) under the COVID-19 Booster Immunization Action Body (CITF-B) has recommended a booster dose be given to all residents aged 18 and over with priority appointments given according to age (age step down approach); frontline officers; individuals with comorbidities; pregnant women; and the need to travel overseas.
Implementation of booster dose vaccine administration for fully-vaccinated recipients are as follows:
a) CoronaVac (Sinovac) vaccine after 3 months of the second dose.
• Recommended to receive a booster dose of Comirnaty (Pfizer) vaccine for all ages or the AstraZeneca vaccine for individuals 50 years of age and older;
• For individuals who cannot take the Comirnaty (Pfizer) vaccine or AstraZeneca vaccine as a booster dose, the CoronaVac (Sinovac) vaccine can be given.
• For individuals who choose to take the CoronaVac (Sinovac) vaccine as a booster dose, they can inform the PPV to administer the vaccine. Although however, the Technical Working Committee still recommends receiving the Comirnaty (Pfizer) vaccine or AstraZeneca vaccine as a booster dose.
