Widely used as a basic ingredient for food products from margarine to cream cheese, from cosmetic items to bakery products, palm oil is, to this day, one of the most utilised edible oils in the world. Palm oil is a controversial topic due to its implications on society, environment and economic growth of developing countries. Malaysia is committed to finding ways to ensure palm oil’s sustainability. More than ever before, it is important to guarantee sustainability at every level of the supply chain, for large and small producers. Hence the need for a balanced dialogue aimed at promoting best practices and uncovering critical success factors, such as:
- Better understanding of the different points of views and perceptions of the issues of sustainable palm oil (in the countries where palm oil is produced and in the markets where it is consumed).
- Sharing success stories that have led to better sustainability in the palm oil industry (scientific advancement or best practices based on technological inputs by companies, initiatives by NGOs and others).
