Malaysian women are highly important contributors to the country’s economic and social development. Improving women’s access to jobs and economic opportunities could significantly boost the productivity of the nation. While the Malaysian government recognizes women’s potential economic contribution, it does not address the issue of ‘disappearing women’ in more senior, managerial, and decision-making positions. Particularly in the corporate sector, the higher you look, the fewer women you see.
As the Malaysian government continues its efforts to increase the female labor force participation rate in the country and encourage 30% of female representation on boards, it is imperative that we understand the issues that are inhibiting Malaysian women from working or gunning for senior positions.
