Finance Ministry: RM17.15b In Excess Tax Refunds Paid To Individuals, Companies As Of Sept 30

14. October 2026
The Finance Ministry confirmed RM17.15 billion in tax refunds settled across 3.23 million cases as of September 30, including RM8.95 billion to over 130,000 corporate taxpayers (MSMEs among them) and RM6.38 billion to 3.1 million individuals. This matters for business cash flow directly: the Inland Revenue Board is processing refunds by case age while explicitly prioritising MSMEs and companies facing cash flow pressure, part of a stated commitment to settle all outstanding refunds promptly under the government’s tax administration reform agenda. MSMEs and corporate taxpayers awaiting refunds may be affected, with the full clearance timeline for remaining outstanding cases, and the separate 2% compensation question for 2025-assessment corporate refunds, still pending further detail from the ministry.
