European Chipmaker NXP Receives $250 Million In Financing From EIB Global To Boost Operations In Malaysia

13. October 2026
NXP Semiconductors is receiving a $250 million loan from EIB Global, the EU’s development finance arm, to expand assembly, packaging and testing capacity at its plant near Kuala Lumpur, with the project due for completion by 2030 and expected to create more than 1,000 jobs. This matters for EU-Malaysia industrial ties directly: the financing, announced at the EU-Malaysia business forum, advances the EU’s Global Gateway strategy and builds on a separate €1 billion EIB loan NXP received in 2024 for its European R&D, positioning Malaysia as a diversification point in NXP’s global semiconductor supply chain serving European industries. Semiconductor supply chain partners, assembly/testing subcontractors and the local skilled workforce around Kuala Lumpur may be affected, with the project running through 2030.
