Government-linked investment companies and government-linked companies are channelling an additional RM120 billion into the domestic economy over a five-year period, with over RM20 billion already deployed last year and a similar amount expected this year, guided by a national industrial master plan. This matters because it signals sustained state-backed capital flowing into priority sectors, alongside a push for higher wages that is setting new private-sector benchmarks, with over 92% of related companies having adopted a living wage. Graduates, care-economy businesses, and private companies competing for talent may be affected, as structured internship programmes and wage competition are expected to reshape hiring standards and investment flows into priority sectors such as ageing-related care services.
