State Aims To Draw EU Companies Expanding Into ASEAN

13. October 2026
Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari positioned Selangor as a gateway for EU companies expanding into ASEAN, citing an international airport, Klang ports and rail connectivity, with the state ranking second nationwide in trade growth (8%) for the first seven months of 2026. This matters for sector-specific positioning: the electrical and electronics sector drew RM18.2 billion in EU investment from 2021-2025, 68% of Malaysia’s aerospace industry is based in Selangor including European MRO centres of excellence, and the state wants to deepen EU partnerships specifically in semiconductors and advanced manufacturing while building out digitalisation and green transition capacity. European companies in E&E, aerospace MRO, semiconductors and advanced manufacturing may be affected, with the state continuing engagement to convert these discussions into concrete investment.
