B15 Biodiesel Cuts Petroleum Diesel Use By 20,410 Tonnes Monthly

The B15 biodiesel blend, raised from B10 starting June 1, 2026, cut average petroleum diesel consumption by 20,410 tonnes (23.62 million litres) monthly from June to August, according to the Plantation and Commodities Minister. This matters because it reduces exposure to global petroleum price swings during geopolitical tensions, which the ministry said could help manage diesel subsidy expenditure more effectively, with the policy backed by technical studies confirming B15 and B20 blends work in diesel vehicles built to post-2020 specifications. Diesel vehicle operators, fuel suppliers and logistics-dependent businesses may be affected, with the government signalling intent to move toward an even higher blending rate, though gradually and dependent on logistics readiness.
