Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim announced that more than 9,000 contract doctors will be offered permanent posts in 2027, effectively ending the long-running contract doctor issue since all housemanship graduates will now move directly into permanent medical officer positions, building on over 15,000 permanent appointments made since 2023. This matters for healthcare workforce stability directly: the government also doubled the post-basic incentive for 47,000 paramedics and nurses from RM100 to RM200 monthly, and more than tripled the Air Health Service incentive from RM30 to RM100, a response specifically tied to the fatal Air Medical Service helicopter crash in Long Lellang. Public healthcare employers, medical graduates and frontline healthcare workers may be affected directly, with the policy taking effect as part of the broader 2027 Budget rollout.
