A state government has unveiled its first locally designed gallium nitride power semiconductor chip alongside a first comprehensive cybersecurity strategy and an expanded digital identity system covering more public services. This matters because it marks a shift from assembly-level participation toward actual chip design and intellectual property ownership, a step up the semiconductor value chain that few state-level players in the region have attempted. Local technology firms, semiconductor supply chains and digital service providers may be affected, with the roadmap extending through 2030 alongside parallel AI infrastructure and a planned nanosatellite launch, the practical test being whether design capability translates into commercial-scale output.
