Malaysia’s automotive sector is calling for greater EV purchase incentives and expanded charging infrastructure in rural areas as the government prepares Budget 2027, with charging availability identified as an important factor influencing consumer confidence and EV adoption. While urban areas and major highways have relatively sufficient charging facilities, industry experts say greater investment in rural charging networks will be needed to support the continued growth of EV usage nationwide. The sector also expects compact vehicles and EVs to remain key drivers of automotive demand, supported by lower running costs, fuel efficiency and advancing technology.
