Malaysia needs a managed energy transition that balances energy security, affordability and sustainability while recognising the country’s current energy realities and long-term ambitions, Economy Minister Akmal Nasrullah Mohd Nasir said. He said Malaysia’s transition will require greater diversification through renewable energy, energy storage, hydrogen, bioenergy and nuclear energy, alongside stronger electricity infrastructure and regional connectivity through initiatives such as the ASEAN Power Grid. The government also expects greater private-sector investment in the transition, supported by clear policy direction, predictable regulation and consistent implementation.
