Malaysia’s Manufacturing Sector Records Third Straight Month of Growth in August, PMI Data Shows

Malaysia’s manufacturing sector recorded a third consecutive month of growth in August, with the S&P Global Malaysia Manufacturing Purchasing Managers’ Index (PMI) registering 50.2, although the pace of expansion was the weakest in the three-month sequence. New orders increased for the third month in a row, encouraging manufacturers to increase employment for the first time in four months, while input and output price inflation eased further. Manufacturers continued to face longer input lead times due to poor weather, low stock availability and port congestion, while business confidence remained subdued.
