The Malaysian government is placing greater emphasis on home-grown technology, intellectual property and skilled talent as it seeks to strengthen Malaysia’s position as a regional digital and AI hub. Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo said success should be measured beyond the growth of data centre infrastructure, with greater focus on developing local innovation, AI capabilities and digital solutions for regional markets. The approach will be supported by measures including the Malaysia AI Action Plan 2026–2030, proposed AI Governance Bill, national digital trust initiatives and efforts to address shortages of AI, cloud and cybersecurity professionals.
