Malaysia’s Ministry of Education has clarified that the School Pupil Protection Policy is intended to strengthen teacher professionalism and establish clearer protocols for safeguarding pupils, rather than increase teachers’ legal or administrative burden. The policy’s Pledge, which will also apply to parents, is designed to reinforce shared responsibility for pupil safety and does not automatically subject teachers to disciplinary action when incidents occur. Developed with input from other agencies and NGOs, the policy complements existing Safe School Guidelines and forms part of wider efforts to strengthen child protection, including the proposed Anti-Bullying Act.
