Malaysia is monitoring the impact of Chinese automotive investments, particularly BYD, on the domestic vehicle market, amid concerns over the disruption seen in Thailand’s automotive sector. Former deputy investment, trade and industry minister Ong Kian Ming said Malaysia should assess the implications for local manufacturers and the wider automotive ecosystem as Chinese automakers expand their presence in the region. He also highlighted the need to consider how Malaysia’s policies can support local industry development and investment alongside the growth of the EV market.
