Tenaga Nasional Berhad welcomed Budget 2027’s RM15 billion National Grid investment, part of its own RM43 billion infrastructure programme running 2025–2027, alongside the government’s move to extend electricity bill protection from 600 kWh to 800 kWh monthly until December 31. This matters for grid-connected industrial and commercial users: the protection threshold change affects over 8 million households (up to 90% of domestic consumers), and TNB reaffirmed its commitment to the national target of 70% renewable energy share in installed capacity by 2050, alongside accelerated rural electrification. Utilities, renewable energy developers and large electricity consumers tracking grid capacity may be affected, with TNB’s RM43 billion modernisation programme continuing through 2027.
